The Sierra Nevada ski resort in Andalucia, Spain, is ready to kick-start the winter season on Saturday, December 3
Sierra Nevada is ready to face its first ´normal´ winter season since 2020. This comes after two disastrous years for tourism and the Spanish economy caused by the worldwide Covid pandemic.
The last season ended with positive numbers. Even so, the sector remains fragile and threatened by inflation and the rise in electricity and fuel prices.
The vice president of the Sierra Nevada Entrepreneurs Association, Enrique de la Higuera, explained that for this coming weekend there was around a 40% occupancy forecast.
Both the business community and the users are ” waiting to see how the season starts”, in reference to the lack of snow so far, explained the vice president.
Between two and three hotels are set to be open. Those with the greatest capacity will open their doors first. As demand increases, more will open, this will depend on “the influx of public and reservations.”
The ´bridge´ over the weekend and Constitution Day (Tuesday 6), together with the celebration of The Immaculate Conception (Thursday 8) are expected to bring more customers.
With forecasts of 70% occupancy and 40% of places already reserved, the snow business is well-prepared for the winter season.
