The bomb squad was called out to diffuse a suspicious package delivered to the American Embassy in Madrid today
A letter bomb was defused at the American Embassy in Madrid on Thursday, December 1. It was the sixth such device to be addressed to prominent targets in a wave that caused Spain to increase security and confirm its commitment to continue helping Ukraine.
On November 24, a package was mailed to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to kick off the campaign, prompting Madrid to increase security around public buildings.
Similar devices have also been sent to the Ukrainian embassy, where a security guard was slightly hurt, an air force base, a weapons company, and other locations.
The Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles, who was visiting the Ukrainian port city of Odesa on Thursday and met with Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov, said the letter bombs would not deter Spain from supporting Ukraine’s “just cause.”
