Brazilian Football legend Pele has stopped receiving cancer treatment and has been moved to a palliative care hospital ward
A report by Folha de Sao Paulo, the country’s media, said that Pele has been moved to a palliative care unit in the hospital. Doctors took the decision after the star stopped responding to chemotherapy in his fight against bowel cancer.
Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, the 82-year-old was admitted to the hospital last week. He is now receiving measures to relieve pain in an ‘end-of-life palliative care’ ward.
His former club Santos, Brazilian ex-player Rivaldo, and the France international forward Kylian Mbappe joined fans around the world in tweeting good wishes.
Pele, full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, won three World Cups with Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970, and scored 643 goals in 659 official matches for the Brazilian club Santos. He scored 77 times in 92 games for his country’s national team.
