Andalucia’s new health cards will be manufactured with a new “dual chip” design to allow for contactless identification

The Ministry of Health and Consumption has put out the contract to tender, which is valued at around 1.36 million euros.

The tender requires quotes for the supply of new health cards in which it plans to incorporate a ´dual chip´ system that allows the identification of its “contactless” users.

This is included in the supporting documents that the Ministry of Health and Consumption has put out to tender with a base budget of 1,357,620 euros with VAT included, and an estimated value of 2,356,200 euros.

The determination of the price for the supply of the cards is carried out “according to the unit prices in relation to the estimated average number of cards necessary for the provision of the service”.

According to the Junta, the Andalucían health card is used to identify people residing in this autonomous community and facilitates their access to the services of the Andalucían Public Health System.

The card also serves as an identifier against other health services of the National Health Service (SNS). The “current average need” is “around 55,000 cards per month”, reports the Ministry, to justify the need for this new contract to guarantee the supply of this document.

All citizens residing in the region, who have public health coverage, are entitled to the card. It contains the Andalucían Single Health History Number (Nuhsa). This unique number is used to identify each person and is linked to their clinical data.
