Costa del Sol reports an increase in tourism

The Costa del Sol helped strengthen the recovery of national tourism after reporting an increase in staycations compared to 2019

The minister of tourism for the Costa del Sol, Margarita del Cid, said:

“The Costa del Sol continues the consolidation of the national market, with increases compared to 2019 in some of the main tourist areas; a path that has already begun to be followed in the summer season when the forecasts that were being handled were already exceeded.”

The indicators for tourist and rural tourism accommodations stand out, experiencing increases of 50% and 7% in October, respectively. This is compared to the same month in 2019, according to the balance for the month of October produced by the Tourism Situation Bulletin published monthly by Turismo Costa del Sol.

In total, the Costa del Sol in Spain´s Andalucia, received 537,556 hotel guests in October, generating more than 1.9 million overnight stays for this type of accommodation, “with a significant increase in Spanish travelers”. Compared to the same month in 2019, there has also been a 29.8% increase in Spanish travellers who arrived at Malaga airport.

Tourism in Spain

Accordingly, Spain’s foreign tourist industry has grown into the second-biggest in the world.
