France scored a double-whammy over the weekend as after England’s world cup defeat it went on to grab a first in its second Junior Eurovision 2022

Vive la France!

England’s bid to win their first World Cup since 1966 ended on Saturday, December 10, as defending champions France clinched a 2-1 win at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Soccer fans in the French Mediterranean city of Nice celebrated on Saturday night, December 10, after France beat England 2-1 to progress to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. France are scheduled to face Morocco in the semifinals on Wednesday, December 14.

On Sunday, December 11, les Français had even more reasons to knock back the champagne as France’s Lissandro won Junior Eurovision 2022. The winning song was co-written by Eurovision 2021 runner-up Barbara Pravi and Frederic Château.

Lissandro’s love for the King of Rock and Roll came to the forefront when he participated in The Voice Kids France in 2020. Blown away by his energetic interpretation of Presley’s “Too Much”, the four judges all turned their seats around, even leaving their podium to dance. This performance earned him the nickname of Elvissandro. Under the guidance of Jenifer Bartoli, Lissandro made it all the way to the final.

The lyrics of “Oh Maman!” see Lissandro delivering a message of perseverance. They explain that you must believe in yourself no matter what happens and no matter what others think. Nothing should stop us.
