The New Year’s Concert will be held on January 2 at the Príncipe de Asturias Municipal Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. It will be performed by the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, which opens its 2023 tour with this concert. Admission is free into the venue until full capacity is reached.

The concert was announced by the mayoress, Margarita del Cid, the Councilor for Culture, Francisco García, and the general director of the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, Juan Carlos Ramírez.

“We are improving the quality and quantity of Torremolinos’ cultural programming. Without complexes and with a lot of ambition, because Torremolinos deserves to be among the elite in terms of cultural and musical programming. And in this sense we are going to continue working ”, said the mayoress during her speech.

Concert performances

The orchestra, directed by Cristóbal Soler, will offer a New Year’s concert with a performance by Mezzosoprano Lorena Valero and with pieces by J. Stauss (son), FA Barbieri, V.Lleó, among others.

The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra gave its inaugural concert on February 14, 1991. It was then born as the Ciudad de Málaga Orchestra, a consortium between the Málaga City Council and the Junta de Andalucía, which responded to the conviction that a city like Málaga should have a great symphony orchestra.

At the helm of the Orchestra and its project, six principal conductors have imprinted their own personalities: Octav Calleya, Odón Alonso, Alexander Rahbari, Aldo Ceccato, Edmon Colomer, and Manuel Hernández Silva. Currently, the title and artistic direction is held by maestro José María Moreno. The Junta de Andalucía has awarded him the Andalusian Flag of the Arts 2021.

The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) was given a new rehearsal home in the city in April 2019, inside the old university dining rooms on the El Ejido campus, specifically the assembly hall and the annexed lobby. The room is exclusively used by members of the OFM.
