Almost 10% of the new Malaga Metro line will be powered by its own photovoltaic plant that is now in operation

Metro de Málaga has completed the installation of a photovoltaic solar plant in its facilities that will be added to its existing network. This installation, equivalent to 8% of the estimated annual energy usage, responds to the commitment to energy efficiency in the field of public transport and is included in a progressive plan for the incorporation of renewable energies in the suburban attached to the Public Works Agency of the Junta de Andalucía.

This facility was originally planned to come into operation at the beginning of 2023. However, this has been brought forward to today Wednesday, December 28, after receiving the mandatory authorisation from the Territorial Delegation of Economy, Finance, European Funds, and Industrial Policy and Energy of Malaga.

The installation consists of 1,050 photovoltaic modules, with 545 watts of power each. Of the total number of panels, 1,025 have been placed next to the workshops and garages.

The layout of the panels, whose operation is estimated to produce a total peak power of 558 kW, is divided into two plots with an area of 4,500 square meters. This part of the facility will produce a production of 941,000 kWh per year, which will be fully used in the concessionaire’s internal electrical network.

The Málaga metro remains firm in its commitment to help achieve a friendlier planet and works to offer sustainable mobility with the highest levels of quality, said a spokesperson for the company.
