Mijas Town Hall has put the La Cala de Mijas Fuengirola coastal pathway out to tender for a cost of 4.8 million euros

José Carlos Martín, Councilor for Infrastructures and Works, announced the project on Tuesday, December 27. The councilor was accompanied by the Head of Contracting for Mijas, Roy Pérez, in the presentation of the initiative, remarking that the project will unite the entire Mijas coast.

Three phases

Martín indicated that the project will be divided into three phases. Two of them are out for public tender, the total length is 3 kilometers. The third stretch is postponed due to the complexity of the final last 2.3 kilometers.

The first section, about 700 meters, corresponds to the limit of La Cala up to approximately The Sheriff beach bar. The second section is between the border of Fuengirola to the El Faro lighthouse- a distance of about 2,300 meters.

“The intermediate section, the most complicated, will be undertaken at a later stage since it is home to many houses that have occupied the land public domain area for years. This route, of 2,377 meters, is located between the El Sheriff beach bar and El Faro and it is a difficult project due to the lack of space and the proximity of the highway. It is a more complicated route since there are many stones and a distance to the smaller shore, which complicates its execution”, said Councilor Martín.

Tourist attraction

Aa a municipal official stressed, “We are facing a major work that adds a new tourist attraction to the city, finally uniting the entire coastline through this path that promotes contact with nature in general, and with the sea in particular”.

Roy Pérez pointed out that “Until January 9, 2023, all companies interested in carrying out this important project for the municipality can submit their offers on the State Contracting Platform”, he added that ” It already went out to public tender a few months ago, but it was deserted due to the increase in the price of wood as a consequence of the Ukrainian War”. For this reason, he has ensured that “the Consistory has had to update the prices to put it out for tender again, increasing by 500,000 euros.”
