The president of the Seville Provincial Council has announced four days of official mourning for the serious accident that occurred in the Three Kings parade in Marchena
The president, Fernando Rodríguez Villalobos, expressed his condolences to the people of Merchena, saying: “The province of Seville is in mourning and our hearts go out to everyone.”
Visibly affected, the mayoress of Marchena, María del Mar Romeroshe, showed her “deepest pain, sadness, and disbelief” in the face of the tragedy that occurred in the Three Kings parade, referring to it as a “horror”. In addition, she gave on behalf of the local Corporation “condolences” to the family of the 71-year-old woman who died in the accident and “wished” for a speedy recovery of the injured. She added: “We are extremely sorry for what happened.”
On the night of Thursday, January 5, at 8.15 pm, a float carrying the Three Kings lost control and plowed the crowd of people that were lining the streets of Marchena, in Sella, Andalucia. initial reports point to a failure of the braking system on the tractor. The driver was tested for alcohol and drugs but passed all tests.
One elderly woman was killed instantly, one very young boy suffered head trauma, and 10 other pedestrians were taken to hospital with various injuries.
The town has been left in a state of shock and disbelief. The funeral of the 71-year-old woman took place on Friday, January 6, she will be laid to rest in the Padre Jesús municipal cemetery.
