A fire in an apartment block in Fuengirola, Malaga, has claimed the lives of two people and injured others
According to witnesses, the blaze started just after 1 pm at a flat in Avenida Miramar, several people were treated by medics on the scene for burns and smoke inhalation.
This afternoon’s fire in a Fuengirola apartment claimed the lives of at least two people. At around 1.25 pm, a number of calls were made to the emergency services reporting a fire in a flat at 19 Avenida Miramar. Witnesses reported large plumes of smoke shooting from the balcony of an apartment building’s fifth floor.
The local fire department, local police, Guardia Civil, and ambulances all sent multiple crews to the incident.
According to the initial reports, some people suffered major burns and smoke inhalation injuries; although some were treated on the site, others required hospitalisation.
Another resident is seriously injured and another has minor injuries, according to sources. The building was totally evacuated while the firefighting operation continued as flames approached higher apartments.
