A list of the 2023 cabin bag and luggage allowance rules for Ryanair, EasyJet, TUI, BA, and Jet2

As the world continues to recover from the COVID pandemic, millions of Britons and expats residing in Spain are expected to take a long-awaited vacation overseas this year.

January is usually one of the busiest for making travel arrangements, whether it’s for a vacation to a sunny locale, a winter escape, or just a tranquil city break.

Travelers are cautioned, however, to be mindful of airline luggage information because fines may result from violating allowances, size restrictions, or other regulations. Here below is a list of cabin luggage policies for Ryanair, EasyJet, Tui, BA, and Jet2.

Ryanair

All passenger fare types include a small personal bag, which must fit under the seat in front of you. This must be a maximum of 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.

Over-sized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of €/£69.99 (fee subject to VAT on domestic flights at applicable government rates).

If you are unsure whether your bag is the correct size, check it at the Bag Drop desk before going through security.

easyJet

EasyJet permits one small cabin bag per person on board for free. It can be a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles or wheels) and needs to fit under the seat in front of you.

Your bag can weigh up to 15kg, but easyJet does ask that you’re able to lift and carry it yourself. Bags larger than this or any additional bags will be placed in the hold and incur the airport bag fee of £39.99.

Jet2

Jet2 allows passengers to carry on board one piece of hand luggage free of charge, as long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles.

If your hand luggage weighs more or is larger than this, it will need to be checked into the aircraft hold, and you may have to pay an additional charge.

You can also bring a small, personal item on board (such as a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase), as long as it is placed underneath the seat in front of you.

TUI

On a TUI Airways flight, you can carry one piece of hand luggage of up to 10kg for free. The maximum dimensions of your hand luggage can be 55x40x20cm and you must be able to lift your hand luggage into the overhead storage compartments yourself.

Things like laptops, handbags, and items bought at the airport must fit within your one piece of hand luggage.

British Airways

All British Airways customers are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage and one small item on board. Hand luggage must not exceed 56x45x25cm and the small item must be no bigger than 40x30x15cm.

Anyone journeying abroad must have a passport that has not expired. However, for some destinations, it must also have been issued within a certain date before making the trip.

Schengen Area passport rules

For countries in the Schengen Area, a passport should be valid for at least three months prior to the travel date, but it must also have been issued less than 10 years before the date of departure.

This little-known rule can catch out holidaymakers as they may think a passport that is not due to expire is completely valid. However, if your passport has been issued over 10 years before the planned travel date, you may be denied entry to some European countries.

This rule is part of the Schengen Area passport requirements, which travellers must follow to gain entry into 27 countries. You can check your issue date in your passport, as it will be under ‘date of issue’. If your passport was issued before October 1, 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date, but these months will not be valid for people entering the Schengen Area.
