The southern province of the Valencian Community witnessed temperatures as low -5.6 degrees on the night of Saturday, January 21

Mountainous areas in the province have reached temperatures below zero degrees in one of the first frosts of the year. Aemet- the state meteorological agency- has forecasted that the cold spell will continue despite the clear skies.

The record low this morning was in the mountains of Menejador in Alcoy, where the thermometer reached -5.6 degrees, according to data from the Avamet network.

Other mountainous areas in the interior also registered temperatures below zero, such as the Foia Ampla de Mariola in Agres at -5.2 degrees and the Sierra Salinas in Villena at -5 degrees. The province has registered similar minimums in interior rural areas, where the lowest temperatures were in the municipality of Fageca, with -3.4 degrees. This small town in the El Comtat region is located at an altitude of more than 750 metres.

According to Aemet, the maximum daytime temperatures will be around 12 degrees in Alicante, 10 in Alto y Medio Vinalopó and 8 in l’Alcoià-Comtat.

From Monday, January 23, the weather agency expects slightly cloudy or clear skies in the morning, changing to cloudy intervals in the afternoon, and in the last hours of the day, weak and occasional precipitations are not ruled out in the northern interior, which could be in the form of snow at any height.
