An online interactive map from the Director General of Traffic (DGT) warns drivers about traffic and weather conditions

Waze, Google Maps, and Sygic, many drivers frequently use their mobile applications to check traffic and weather conditions. However, few people know about Infocar, the DGT’s interactive map that works every day of the year and is constantly updated with information from Traffic cameras, The Guardia Civil and Civil Protection Agencies, among others.

It is designed so that, at a simple glance, you can see which roads may present traffic problems. In addition, in winter, there you will find before any other site which roads are cut off due to bad weather or accidentsThe map will also mark in red, where the use of chains or special tires is necessary to drive safely.

Drivers also have the services of the National Traffic and Mobility Access Point (NAP). In fact, other applications such as Google Maps are fed information from its databasesThe information corresponding to the provinces of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona is provided by the Generalitat de Catalunya, while those of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa correspond to the Basque Government.

Don’t forget to switch the radio on, either. The Traffic Information Service broadcasts updated information through the different radio stations throughout Spain. On average, a working day can have more than 300 broadcasts. You also have the telephone number 011 available, not to be confused with the emergency number 112. It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

According to the DGT, last year it answered more than 210,000 calls.

The DGT is also very active on social networks. There are two official Twitter accounts: the main one is @DGTes, which has more than 450,000 followers. In addition, @InformacionDGT is also available, where automated and up-to-date information from the Traffic Management Centers is collected.

All this information should be completed with the data from the State Meteorological Agency. It also has its own application, which includes alerts about bad weather.
