AN 18-month-old British boy drowned in a La Nucia villa swimming pool in the Spanish province of Alicante
At approximately 10:00 am, on Friday, May 12, emergency services were alerted that a child had been found in an unconscious state after being pulled out of the water. The Guardia Civil and SAMU paramedics were dispatched to the villa, with an air ambulance on standby to transport the boy to Alicante General Hospital.
La Nucia is a municipality just north of Benidorm and a 15-minute drive inland from the popular resort of Altea.
Despite nearly an hour of resuscitation attempts, the child could not be revived. Local media reported that the boy’s mother and three other children were present at the villa during the incident, but it is unclear whether they were on vacation or residing in La Nucia. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death has been initiated by the Guardia Civil.
A Guardia Civil spokesman said: “This incident is still under investigation but everything so far is pointing to the youngster’s death being a tragic accident.”
