MAIN COVER STORY: Two young Dutch people were injured this morning (Tuesday, July 18) when they accidentally fell from the coastal path of Lloret de Mar
Both of the injured were transferred to the Josep Trueta hospital in Girona. One of them, who had more serious injuries, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The events happened after 01.30 in the morning when a citizen alerted the Local Police that there was a person who needed help in the stretch of the coastal path between the Roca d’en Maig and the statue of the Dona Marinera.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two young men with multiple injuries. The victims, originally from Holland, spent a few days of vacation in the town and were staying in an apartment in the municipality.
The Mossos d’Esquadra, which have taken charge of the investigation, are waiting to take statements from the injured to know exactly what happened and the circumstances surrounding the fall, which everything indicates was accidental.
It is not the first time that a young man rushes from the coastal path of Lloret. In 2017, a 21-year-old Austrian died at dawn when he fell off a cliff on the coastal path towards Fenals Beach.
Motorcyclist dies after head-on collision in Palau-Saverdera
The driver of a motorcycle, 53, died on Monday afternoon in an accident with a vehicle in Plau-Savedera (Alt Empordà). The accident occurred shortly after 16:45 p.m. at kilometre 5.8 of the GI-610 highway when a passenger car and a motorcycle collided head-on for reasons that are still being investigated.
As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist, of French nationality, died and the passenger of the motorcycle was critically injured. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) transferred the wounded to the Tureta hospital in Girona in critical condition. Four endowments of the Mossos d’Esquadra, four Firefighters, two ambulances of the SEM and a medicalized helicopter were moved to the scene of the events.

Alicante’s southern coast is on Red Alert
Between one o’clock at noon and nine o’clock at night tomorrow, Wednesday, July 19, the State Meteorological Agency foresees a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius in the Vega Baja del Segura and 42 on the southern coast of the province of Alicante, which will be reached mainly in the western half of the area, remaining at 36-39ºC the rest.
These data suppose the immediate activation of the red level due to extreme temperatures in these regions, the maximum foreseen by the Emergency Service of the Generalitat Valenciana. The interior of the province of Valencia and the northern interior of Alicante maintain the orange level, while the rest of the coast and Castellón will enjoy milder temperatures.
