British Airways Has Announced That It Will Resume Operations From London Stansted Airport Starting May 2024
In a triumphant return to London Stansted Airport, British Airways (BA) is making a comeback after a pandemic-induced hiatus. Starting May 18, BA CityFlyer, the airline’s subsidiary, will spread its wings with weekend flights to captivating destinations: Florence, Italy; Ibiza, Spain; and Nice, France. The Embraer 190 aircraft will be the vessel for these enchanting journeys, marking BA’s return to scheduled flights from Stansted after a four-year absence.
BA CityFlyer, renowned for its weekday operations from London City Airport (LCY) to nearly 30 short-haul destinations, is expanding its horizons. The new Stansted services will seamlessly complement its existing weekday routes. Moreover, BA CityFlyer has recently added weekend services from Edinburgh, Scotland, to San Sebastian, Spain, and Olbia, Sardinia, creating an even more diverse tapestry of travel options.
Once a pioneer in launching flights from Stansted in May 2016, with a focus on popular European getaways like Faro in Portugal and Ibiza, Malaga, and Palma in Spain, BA is reclaiming its position. Winter-season routes included flights to Berlin and Chambery, France, showcasing the airline’s commitment to offering a broad spectrum of destinations.
This strategic return to Stansted amplifies BA’s footprint in the bustling London market, solidifying its presence at four gateways. With approximately 13.8 million departure seats scheduled from London Heathrow Airport, 1.95 million from London Gatwick Airport (LGW), and 950,000 from LCY during summer 2024, BA is painting a vibrant tapestry of travel options.
Alongside the Stansted revival, BA is gearing up for a new adventure to Agadir, Morocco, from LGW, commencing March 31. This 4X-weekly service, operated by BA Euroflyer, marks a significant addition to the carrier’s network after more than a decade. Anticipating “strong demand” from leisure passengers, Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer, envisions Agadir joining Marrakech as a jewel in BA’s Moroccan destinations.
As the airline charts new territories, next summer promises direct competition for easyJet and TUI Airways, with easyJet also serving Agadir from London Luton Airport and Ryanair offering flights from Stansted. British Airways, once again, takes flight into the future of travel, offering an array of choices and experiences for its passengers.
