Elderly man found face down in the sea pronounced dead at Malaga Beach

Sunday 30th July, at approximately 7:15pm lifeguards stationed at Calle Banda called in emergency services to report an elderly man found floating face down near Tourist Quality accredited Beach el  Dedo, located on Calle Banda del Mar, El Paro in Malaga City.

The 81-year-old gentleman and had been pulled unconscious from the sea by lifeguards and Beach goers, in urgent need of medical services.
Spectators on the scene reported the man appeared to be suffering cardiorespiratory arrest whilst in the water.

It is unclear if the gentleman was a tourist or resident, however despite CPR and the medics best efforts, the pensioner sadly did not make it and was pronounced dead shortly after the Emergencias arrival.

The beach remains open and no suspicious activity or danger is reported within the waters.

Beach go-ers are encouraged to call 112 and find their nearest on duty-lifeguard should they see any emergencies in the ocean, and not to attempt a rescue themselves unless medically trained to do so.
The peak months for highest number of deaths due to drowning in Spain in 2021 were June, July and August.
The total reaches 260 deaths in 2021 for accidental drowning, whereas 2020 saw almost double that figure standing at 406 despite the lockdown restrictions.
Over 3/4 of victims were adult men.
