Spanish company UMILES’ Next eVTOL air taxi trial has been hailed a success
UMILES Next is one of only three companies in Spain working to change mobility. It is betting big on an eVTOL Integrity Concept which has already made its first inaugural pilotless flight.
The company had recently carried out a similar test in Toulouse, France. On October 26, 2022, the eVTOL Integrity Concept made a ´real flight´ to demonstrate and test its remote control flight systems, a necessary validation step so that it can be used as an air taxi in the future by the general public.
UMILES Next reported that this first test flight took place in Jaén and has already said that the next test will take place in the province of Lugo, although there is still no set date. These tests allow all systems to be tested in more realistic environments and not under laboratory conditions.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with its partner Tecnalia. The prototype that has been demonstrated and tested has a length of 8 meters and is capable of carrying a payload of 100 kilos.
In terms of performance, the maximum speed reached by the Spanish eVTOL was 80 km / h. The range of travel is about 15 kilometers.
It is important to point out that this is a prototype and UMILES Next has already built its new prototype called Integrity3 with a load capacity that will be increased to 300 kilos and a speed of 220 km/h. In addition, its autonomy will be greater, being able to cover much greater distances, about 125 kilometers.
