Fuengirola City Council is staging a complete program of Carnival Festivities for the weekend of February 18 and 19

The Fuengirola City Council has designed, for the weekend of February 18 and 19, a complete program of Carnival activities, as reported this morning by the Councilor for Festivals and Traditions, Isabel Moreno.

At 6.00pm on Saturday 18, there will be a parade through the downtown area that will end in the Plaza de la Constitución with a costume party and performances by street musicians and ‘comparsas’ (a group of singers and dancers that take part in carnivals and other festivities in Spain).

On Sunday 19, at 11:00 a.m., a children’s Carnival party will begin in Parque de España and Avenida Condes de San Isidro with performances, workshops and many more activities aimed at the little ones.

‘A parade full of colour and fun’

“The week before the Wednesday of Lent from the Fuengirola City Council we celebrate Carnival with a complete program that this year will take place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February”, Moreno explained, noting that “Saturday 18 will be dedicated to adults with a costume party and Carnival performances in the Plaza de la Constitución starting at 7.30 pm; but before that, starting at six in the evening, there will be a parade full of colour and fun”.

The itinerary of this parade will begin in the Plaza de España to go through Condes de San Isidro Avenue, Reyes Católicos square, San Antonio street, Estación avenue, Condes de San Isidro Avenue, Marconi street, Troncón street, Chinorros square, Alemania street, Marbella street and Constitution square.

“The activity in the Plaza de la Constitución will begin at half past seven in the afternoon with the musical performance of the quartet ‘What happened?’; then, at eight o’clock, we will have a group costume contest, which will have a prize valued at 200 euros and families, groups of neighbours or friends can participate”, said the mayor, who added that the festivities will continue at 8:30 p.m. “with a performance by the mixed troupe ‘En el nombre de Moma’”.

Adult costume contest

Then, at 9:15 p.m., the individual adult costume contest will be held, for both males and females, with prizes valued at 100 euros for each of the winners of both categories. After the contest, the performances will return to the stage of the Plaza de la Constitución with the comparsa ‘El Origen’ at 9:30 p.m., to end with the performance of the murga ‘Los Príncipes Desencantados’, which will begin at 10:15 p.m. hours.

Sunday, February 19, will be dedicated to children with a Carnival party that will begin at 11:00 a.m. and on this occasion “we will cut Condes de San Isidro Avenue, from Molino de Viento street to Camino de Coín, where an area with inflatable elements will be installed and a children’s gymkhana will be developed.

In addition, different carnival-themed workshops will be held in the Parque de España as well as musical performances in the Cristóbal Blanca del Moral auditorium. We will also have children’s animation characters wandering around the area so that families can take pictures with them”, explained Moreno.

The children’s party will feature a children’s musical by the animation company Peladilla Producciones starting at 11:00 a.m., a children’s costume contest (with gifts valued at more than one hundred euros for the winner), magic shows, Illusionism, music and puppets by the Mas Animación company, as well as Carnival-themed children’s workshops by Os Zagales.
