This week’s spotlight on local talent features Ray Frost – one of the most skilled vocalists and accomplished songwriters on the music scene
Essex-born musician Ray Frost started to explore his passion for playing the guitar at the tender age of just thirteen. Discovering he was gifted with a natural-born talent, over the next few years he developed and refined his skills, progressing to play in various rock and blues bands on the Essex circuit throughout the 1980s and 1990s, whilst building up an impressively extensive repertoire covering popular tunes.
In 2002, Ray moved to Spain and was soon playing the guitar and singing in local bars, simultaneously hosting music tuition classes. He now has an established itinerary of local venues, at which he performs as often as his schedule permits.
Ray joined seventies chart-toppers The Rubettes in 2013 and toured with them for a year before leaving to play with sixties legends Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, which subsequently found him travelling the globe with them for over four years.
Most recently, Ray was asked to deputise for Herman’s Hermits, completing a short tour of Germany with them and playing to packed auditoriums and enthusiastic audiences with a love of nostalgia. So successful was the tour that he accepted the offer of a full time position, which led to a mammoth countrywide tour with the Hermits on their “Solid Gold Sixties” tour.
In 2019, Ray made the decision to release his own album. Affectionately entitled Coming Home, it was very well received and led to extensive airplay on a fistful of popular shows, including several on BBC stations. Hot on the heels of this, a second album was released in May 2020 entitled In My Life. Jam-packed with quality songs that benefited from far bigger production values, the album featured many guest musicians, among them Savage Garden’s Daniel Jones.
Ray’s third album, Waitin’ in the Sun was unleashed in the summer of 2021 and plans are underway to take this album on the road with a full band very soon.
Ray is an incredibly versatile musician with an enviable knowledge of popular music spanning six decades. Further still, he is an experienced entertainer with a likeable personality and exudes a confident stage presence with a wealth of touring experience.
Proficient in Acoustic guitar, Electric guitar, Bass guitar, Ukulele, Banjo and Piano, Ray is one of the most skilled vocalists and accomplished songwriters on the music scene.
